About The BIA

The Historic Downtown Bowmanville Business Centre is a not-for-profit organization consisting of the businesses operating within the designated historical downtown core of Bowmanville.  More commonly known as the Historic Downtown Bowmanville BIA (business improvement area), it was formed in 1977 with a mandate to promote, enhance, and beautify the downtown area.

Historic Downtown Bowmanville

Historic Downtown Bowmanville is rich in history and heritage. With early settlers dating back to 1794, Bowmanville was first incorporated as a town in 1858.  Many of the buildings in the historic downtown area date back to this era and great efforts have been undertaken to maintain the architectural heritage. Today, these buildings are home to nearly 200 businesses in Historic Downtown Bowmanville.

Bowmanville is located approximately 75km east of Toronto, with easy access off Highway 401.  It is the largest town in the Municipality of Clarington and is part of Durham Region. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) includes Bowmanville. Highway 2 runs directly through Historic Downtown Bowmanville.

Historic Downtown Bowmanville is known for its award-winning street festivals, including Maplefest and Applefest. These events are organized, hosted, and paid for by the businesses of Historic Downtown Bowmanville.Events are just one way that the BIA promotes the area as a wonderful place to shop, work, live, and visit.
